Jay Rancourt, Library Director

B & J edited
Jay took the job of director in 1998 after spending three years as Cook’s children’s librarian. During her tenure in Tamworth, the automated catalog has doubled in size, and the open hours per week have increased from 20 to 32. The 110 year-old building, with the new Alt Children’s Wing, has quadrupled its usable space, and attendance and circulation have nearly tripled. She feels blessed every day to be working with such a wonderful staff and board to serve the Tamworth community. She also has a passion for Book arts, kayaking, gardening and skiing.

Dear Jay - We in Vermont have been hearing about some of your innovative services. We’re considering getting a Netflix account at Brooks Memorial, and I wondered how it’s going at your library. Do you still have only one movie at a time? Do you limit how many requests patrons can make? Do you have an automated circulation system, and do you use it to check out the Netflix titles? Thoughts on any of these questions would be a great help to us if you have a moment. Thank you! Jeanne (Reference Librarian, Brooks Memorial Library, Brattleboro, VT)

To complete my MLIS Master’s project at Kent State University in Ohio, I’m researching measurable impacts of library addition or renovation construction projects completed in the year ending 6/30/2002. The December 2002 construction issue of Library Journal listed such projects, including one at your library. Is there a specific email address to which I should send my survey letter? Thanks very much for your help.
